Who we are

Priests and Brothers

Missionaries of the Precious Blood priests and brothers share a commitment to reach out to those who are lost or forsaken. They are encouraged to follow God’s call in the tradition of our founder, St. Gaspar del Bufalo, to serve the people of God in ways that will invigorate God’s Church. Our priests and brothers live as a family and find in each other the support and friendship that sustains them in their ministries.

Precious Blood priests take great joy in celebrating the sacraments and in serving God’s people in a variety of ministries which include pastors, preachers, teachers, reconcilers, authors, retreat leaders, and chaplains.

Precious Blood brothers serve the people of God as teachers, preachers, artists, chaplains, vocation ministers, musicians, and sacristans, to name a few. They serve in parishes, schools, and hospitals, or wherever God calls them.

No matter where and how they serve, Precious Blood priests and brothers are missionaries. They also live as one with the people they serve, rolling up their sleeves and getting to work.

Through a ministry rooted in the Word of God, they promote human dignity, justice, peace, and the integrity of creation.

Provincial Council

The provincial council of Missionaries of the Precious Blood, also known as the C.PP.S from the Latin Congregatio Missionariorum Pretiosissimi Sanguinis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi (Congregation of the Most Precious Blood), is the governing body of the United State Province. The provincial council is responsible for:

  1. Leadership and Governance: Providing leadership and overseeing the implementation of the congregation's mission, charism, and directives within the province.

  2. Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing strategic plans for the province, addressing areas such as mission priorities, community life, and ministry opportunities.

  3. Support and Formation: Offering support and resources for the spiritual and professional development of members, including organizing formation programs for new members and ongoing education for current members.

  4. Administration: Managing the administrative affairs of the province, including financial oversight, property management, and compliance with church and civil regulations.

  5. Communication: Facilitating communication within the province and with the broader congregation.

  6. Representation: Representing the province in interactions with other provinces, the central leadership of the congregation, and external organizations, including the broader Church and local communities.

The council works collaboratively to ensure that the mission and values of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood are faithfully carried out in their ministries and community life.

Companions

Inspired by our founder, St. Gaspar, the Missionaries of the Precious Blood envision a community where priests, brothers, and lay people, called Companions, unite to become voices that proclaim the Most Precious Blood of Christ. Companions’ lives of service and ministry in the world are a vital witness to the power of the blood of Christ given so freely to all the people of God.

Catholic Companions, missionaries, catholic missionaries, God's calling

Called by the cry of the Blood
Companions are sealed with their covenants as an integral, living part of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. Through that covenant relationship, we gather, then are sent to bring hope and reconciliation to a wounded world.

The Blood of Christ empowers us
in our own ministries, and encourages us into ministry with the priests and brothers of the Community.

Out of the sacred spaces of our gatherings,
we draw strength and hope. From those gatherings, our time spent in Community, and our mission houses, we are sent. We are called to share the gifts we have been given with the rest of the world.

We bring the cup of our spirituality
to ever-widening circles, to people of all generations, races and cultures. We seek out those who are yearning for this message, and invite them, the way that we were invited.

Precious Blood spirituality has taken root
in our hearts. We step out, stand up and speak clearly about the Precious Blood of Jesus.

Amici

Amici are men and women who are connected to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in a special way. Some are former C.PP.S. members (and their spouses). Others studied at Brunnerdale, the Missionaries’ former high school seminary near Canton, Ohio; at St. Charles Seminary in Carthagena, Ohio; and/or at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. Those ties to the Missionaries, through their education and shared experiences, remain strong.

Many of the Amici went on from their formation with the Missionaries to work in the helping professions. They remain an important part of the Precious Blood community.

Amici gather every other summer for a reunion at St. Charles.
