Sisterhood is a precious thing

The Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation is celebrating women in March. With International Women’s Day (March 8) kicking off National Catholic Sisters Week (8-14), it’s a wonderful time to celebrate the women who inspire us. The theme for International Women’s Day and month is “Accelerate Action,” emphasizing the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve equality. PBMR is undertaking a number of communal spaces and multi-generational gatherings to celebrate women and bring folks (men and women together) to accelerate action toward equality.

Sr. Donna Liette, C.PP.S., with support from the Healing Team and Family Forward Team will lead Mother’s Circles and will host virtual gatherings and forums for women and men to gather and learn from one another.

Bringing new energy to this space, Takiyah Dixon and Maggie Roth recently joined PBMR’s staff as mentors in the Young Women’s Mentoring Program. While new to their roles, both Maggie and Takiyah come with years of experience at PBMR. Maggie started as a volunteer, then interned during COVID-19, immersing herself in the community and work of the ministry. Takiyah grew up in the program, became a trained circle keeper and later a mentor apprentice before joining the staff. As she takes on her new role, Takiyah says, “I feel like I’m in a unique position with the young women at the center. Not too long ago, I was literally sitting in the same chairs as them.” Read more about the PBMR Young Women’s Program and Takiyah and Maggie’s story at www.pbmr.org.

Together the PBMR staff will do what it does best: create spaces where community can grow, where hurt can be healed, and where dreams can take flight.
